My illustration for Mermay 2019. And this was done on iPad Pro, using the Procreate app. I did some minor touch-ups on my Mac using Photoshop, but 97% of this was in Procreate. Still getting used to it, but I really like what it feels like to draw on the iPad.
I decided to participate in #faepril this year. It's basically an event where you draw a fairy every day in April and post online with the hashtag #faepril or #faepril2019. I'm not going to have time to make a drawing every day, but I'd like to make a couple ones if I can. This is the first, a rose fairy. The symmetry tool in Photoshop came very much in handy with this one. And I even recorded most of the colouring process as you can see from the YouTube video!
The completed Halloween Witch 2018 drawing :) It took extra time to complete because I fell in love with two very different colour schemes, but I eventually decided on this one. For anyone not speaking Norwegian: Tryllestøv=Magic dust/Fairy dust.
Maybe I went a bit overboard with the fairy dust, but then again...can you really go overboard when it comes to fairy dust? Is there such a thing as too much fairy dust? Think about it.
A brief explanation of my illustration process when I draw in Photoshop: I start with the outlines, then move on to do the greyscale colouring on a separate layer before I start with the flat colours on a separate layer so I can experiment with the layer style on top of the greyscale to get the desired effect. The last image here demonstrates what the colours actually look like when I just turn the layer to Normal. Then I add textures to make everything less smooth.
It's not 100% straightforward like that of course. Sometimes I get halfway through the greyscale colouring, and then I want to test some flat colours. Then I might add textures somewhere, then I adjust the flat colours, then I continue on the greyscale again, then I realise I want to fix something on the outlines, and then I add more textures, etc. etc.
Halloween witch 2018. Still in greyscale because I haven't had time to complete the colouring...but I will, and when I've done it I'll post it here!
Halloweenheks 2018. Fremdeles i gråtoner siden jeg ikke har hatt tid til å fullføre fargeleggingen...men jeg kommer til å gjøre det, og når jeg har gjort det legger jeg det ut her!
It's that time again...Mermay 2018. You're supposed to draw a Mermaid or Merman every day throughout May, but I usually only have time for one drawing, so this is probably it for this year. Maybe one year I'll cheat and start planning way ahead of May...but that's still just as time-consuming and unlikely to happen.
It's been over a year since I posted my first video on YouTube...While I never intended to start any kind of professional YouTube career, but I was hoping I would be able to post a bit more frequently. I'm still figuring things out, so I've kept it very simple for now, just recording how I turned the drawing into a simple greyscale image. I hope I'll get to a point where I can share more interesting parts of my drawing process.
